unnotable vs Notion
Notion is a workspace that can be anything: a wiki, a database, a doc, a whole company. That flexibility is also the cost. At eleven at night, with a thought you can't place, it asks which page, which database, which template. unnotable is one thing: a box for the thought, and a way back to it.
Where Notion is stronger
- Documents. Long pages, rich blocks, embeds, tables, real formatting. unnotable's writing is a plain markdown thread.
- Databases. Any schema, any view, relations, formulas. unnotable has one schema: notes, with a kind and some topics.
- Teams. Permissions, sharing, publishing, comments, a company wiki. unnotable is for one person.
- An ecosystem. Templates for everything, integrations, an API, native apps, Notion AI inside the page.
If you're building a system, or a team needs to live in it, use Notion.
Where unnotable is different
- Capture asserts nothing. One box. No page to pick,
no property to fill, no template. A kind if you want one
(! for a thing to do), a topic if you type one
(
@house). Otherwise it's scratch, sorted later or never. Nothing stands between the thought and the box. - A note earns its page. A one-liner stays a row in a list. Write on it and it becomes a page, with a thread and children. Nothing is declared up front, so there's no blank page and no wrong place to have put it.
- Kinds, not properties. Every note is a thought, a thing to do, a thing to find out, or scratch. Filters, review and the board all read that one field. There's nothing to configure and nothing to keep tidy.
- It comes back to you. Notion holds whatever you put in and waits. unnotable's Review surfaces what's been sitting, with a question, when you have a moment. Nothing is red; nothing counts.
- AI that proposes. Notion AI writes in the page. In unnotable the model can read and suggest, and whatever it suggests waits under Proposals until you commit it. The thinking stays yours.

If you're switching
Keep Notion for the documents. Most people who use both leave the wiki and the project pages where they are and move the loose thoughts, the half-started things and the errands into unnotable, because that's the part Notion was never good at holding.
